REDWOOD COAST VILLAGE

Helping seniors stay active, socially connected, and living independently

Our History

In 2013, the Area 1 Agency on Aging (A1AA) received a grant from St. Joseph Care for the Poor to support their Volunteer Driver Program and to gauge community interest in creating a local Village. A1AA surveyed over 3,000 people with questions about aging in Humboldt County and the Village concept. Public discussion about creating a Village in Humboldt began in November 2014 and a “seed” group came together to begin organizing a Humboldt County Village. In February 2015, the name Redwood Coast Village was chosen by popular vote.

The first Steering Committee of 12 individuals met in May 2015 to begin taking input from other Villages and from communities from Fortuna to Trinidad and map out a structure that would work for a rural area like ours (most Villages are in more urban environments). RCV began services to members in October 2016 and has been building on that solid foundation ever since. The organization is truly made of, by, and for the people who are a part of it, and we continue to work towards our goal of changing the experience of aging in Humboldt County for the better!

In July of 2023, Redwood Coast Village (RCV) became a program of the Humboldt Senior Resource Center (HSRC), a leading provider of services for seniors in our community. As a program of HSRC, RCV will have additional resources to expand its community of members and volunteers while continuing to provide the same quality member and volunteer network you know today. In addition, with RCV operating as a HSRC program, we are pleased that RCV members will have even more access to senior resources.

RCV is a member of the national Village to Village network and Village Movement California.
